The Cornish Language Board
The Cornish Language Board was founded in 1967 by the joint resolution of the Gorsedd of Cornwall and the Federation of Old Cornwall Societies to continue the work of promoting Cornish which had been the responsibility of those two bodies. It is an elected Board with official representatives from Cornwall Council and the two founding organisations. Elections take place every three years, the electorate being the members of Kowethas an Yeth Kernewek world-wide, although candidates need not be members of the Kowethas. It has links with Bwrdd yr Iaith Gymraeg, the Welsh Language Board.
It provides reliable information on all aspects of the revival, organises teaching, conducts examinations in co-operation with the Local Education Committee and publishes educational materials such as course books, grammars, dictionaries and other reference works as well as scholarly editions of the classical texts.
All meetings and records are in Cornish. Though it uses Common Cornish, it recognises Unified for anyone who wishes to continue with this. The Board derives its income from the sale of its publications and from occasional grants.
